American folk-rock band

Claude says:Brothers Scott and Seth Avett grew up playing music in Concord, North Carolina — their grandmother was a concert pianist — and eventually merged their late-'90s rock bands (Margo and Nemo) before going acoustic with Bob Crawford on upright bass. They mix bluegrass, punk energy, and pop hooks into something the San Francisco Chronicle once likened to Townes Van Zandt's sadness meeting the Ramones' raw drive. You've kept them in light rotation since 2011, leaning hardest on I & Love & You and the studio albums that followed, though they've never quite become a fixture — more a dependable pull when the mood calls for it.
