Claude says:Scott and Seth Avett grew up playing music in Concord, North Carolina — their grandmother was a concert pianist, their father a guitarist — and by the early 2000s they were mixing bluegrass, punk, and folk rock into something the San Francisco Chronicle once compared to Townes Van Zandt's sadness meeting the Ramones' raw energy. This live set catches them loose and electric, leaning into the rowdier side of their catalog with "Satan Pulls the Strings" and "Kick Drum Heart" getting most of your attention. You picked it up in early 2016 and played it hard that winter, then kept coming back every couple years when you needed that particular blend of banjo, grit, and singalong warmth.
