American indie rock band

Atlanta indie rock band fronted by Andy Hull, who famously dropped out of his small-town Georgia Christian high school to write songs at home—naming the project after The Smiths' Manchester because he didn't want to be in a traditional band. You latched on hard in March 2010 with the early records, then went quiet for nearly a decade before A Black Mile to the Surface pulled you back in 2019, and that album—especially "The Sunshine" and "The Maze"—has been the real anchor ever since, with scattered visits to the newer stuff and the occasional nod to Simple Math.
