Claude says:Manchester Orchestra's fifth album arrived in 2017 as a deliberate reset after the twin release of Cope and Hope, shaped by Andy Hull and Robert McDowell's work on the Swiss Army Man soundtrack — an experience that pushed them to "make every little second interesting." The record weaves a concept story set in a South Dakota mining town with Hull's reflections on his young daughter, and tracks like "The Moth" took four and a half months to reach their final form. You grabbed onto it in August 2019, two years after release, and spent that first fall running "The Sunshine," "The Maze," and "The Gold" hardest before it resurfaced for scattered but committed runs in 2021 and late 2022.
