American country musician

Claude says:John David Anderson came out of Apopka, Florida, learning country through rock — Hendrix and the Stones first, then George Jones changed his direction when he was fifteen. He showed up in Nashville unannounced in 1971, roofed the Opry House by day, and eventually broke through in the early eighties with that backwoods drawl and "Swingin'," landing him squarely in the New Traditionalist movement alongside Ricky Skaggs and George Strait. You started listening in early 2023 and lean hardest on that live Merle cover — it's the straightest shot to what he does best.
