Claude says:Young Oceans began as an offshoot of a New York church's worship project — songwriter Eric Marshall and a shifting group of musicians met in a SoHo apartment to rework hymns into something more suited to meditation than Sunday mornings. This Advent EP sounds like what it is: spare, patient, reverent songs recorded in Brooklyn after Hurricane Sandy knocked out power and stranded the producer's car in search of gas. You found it in early 2013 and wore it out through spring, the older hymn texts and restrained arrangements giving you something steadier than typical worship fare — "All Who Hear" and "Come To Us O Lord" kept pulling you back even as the plays tapered off over the next few years.
