Claude says:Nicholas Drake was a deeply reserved English singer-songwriter who died in 1974 at twenty-six, mostly unheard in his lifetime but profoundly influential since — his parents both wrote music, and his mother's fragile vocal delivery and fatalism prefigured his own. This record sounds like classic Drake: hushed fingerpicked guitar, whispered melancholy, and that sense of something slipping away before you can hold it. You played it a handful of times across a few years, circling back to "One of These Things First" when the mood struck, but it never quite stuck.
