German singer and actress (1938–1988)

Claude says:Christa Päffgen took the name Nico and moved from Fellini films and Warhol's Factory to the Velvet Underground's debut, then broke off into stark, harmonium-driven work with John Cale that wandered far from rock. You've only given her three plays since 2019, all from Chelsea Girl — the early, folk-tinged one with other people's songs, not the eerie later albums she's really known for.
