Belgian-Australian musician (born 1980)

Claude says:Wouter De Backer — stage name Gotye, from the French version of his Flemish first name — grew up in Melbourne after moving from Belgium at age two. "Somebody That I Used to Know" became one of the best-selling singles of 2012 and won Record of the Year at the Grammys, but he's released music independently since the early 2000s and plays in the indie-pop trio the Basics. You caught that inescapable hit when it dropped in 2012, then let the whole thing drift — a stray play here and there, never quite enough to stick.
