American rock band

Claude says:Cake is a Sacramento rock band built around singer John McCrea's deadpan vocal delivery and a musical palette that pulls from norteño, mariachi, funk, and hip-hop as casually as it does guitar rock. They broke through in 1996 with Fashion Nugget and "The Distance," went platinum twice more, and became known for McCrea's droll sarcasm and trumpeter Vince DiFiore's horn lines cutting through the mix. A few scattered plays in the mid-2000s didn't register, but you properly got into them in late 2012 and they've stuck around ever since — Fashion Nugget and "Short Skirt / Long Jacket" remain the most-played pieces, though you've clearly given the whole catalog a proper listen across the last decade-plus.
