Claude says:alt-J's debut arrived a year before the Mercury Prize win that would make it unavoidable, but you were already pulling Breezeblocks and Tessellate into rotation by April 2013, right as the hype was cresting. The album is built on layered radar imagery of the Ganges delta and a careful scatterbrain approach to arrangement — folk triangles, breathy falsetto, hip-hop percussion, and samples that shouldn't fit but do. You've cycled back to it in distinct waves ever since: heavy spells in 2015, 2017–18, then a long stretch through 2020–21, like checking in with something that sounded like nothing else when it landed.
