Claude says:Portland's The Decemberists built their reputation on history-minded story songs and whimsical stage reenactments, a literate folk-rock project led by Colin Meloy since 2000. This 2017 single keeps their narrative instincts intact — a wry character sketch set to jangly guitars and that familiar earnest croon. You gave it a few plays in 2022, five years after it came out, but it never really stuck.
