Claude says:Jimmy LaValle built The Album Leaf out of improvised Rhodes piano over drum machines back in late-'90s San Diego, a side project from his day job in post-rock band Tristeza that grew into something hypnotic and patient. Between Waves is synth-heavy ambient post-rock that pulses and drifts without ever getting stuck in one place — electronic but warm, textured without being cluttered. You grabbed it the month it came out and ran "Ambo" and "Back to the Start" hard that September, then let it slide until a handful of returns in late 2022.
