Claude says:John Frusciante's warm, doo-wop-laced guitar work steered this 2002 record away from the band's punk-funk reputation and toward something melodic and subdued — he wrote most of the melodies, vocal arrangements, and progressions himself, calling it one of the happiest times in his life. You had a few glancing plays years before, but it properly took hold in August 2021, almost two decades after release.
