Claude says:Ray LaMontagne's second album, produced by Ethan Johns at Allaire Studios in upstate New York and released in 2006, was his commercial breakthrough — a Top 40 record that sold 28,000 copies its first week. A few stray plays in 2008 didn't click, but when it took hold in early 2009, three years after release, it became a full-on fixation through the end of that year. "Empty" and "Be Here Now" still get the most spins, but the whole front half holds up.
