Claude says:Mogwai's 1997 debut was recorded in a summer at Hamilton's MCM Studios with most songs written in the room, built from guitar, bass, and drums with the occasional flute or glockenspiel. It established their template: long instrumental builds, quiet-loud dynamics, and speaking-voice samples pulled from phone calls and rambles, plus one song with Aidan Moffat on vocals. You got into it a decade after release in 2007, circled back hard in early 2009, and still return to "Mogwai Fear Satan" and "Like Herod" when you need that specific sprawl.
