Claude says:Alice Longyu Gao wrote this hyperpop lead single for KATSEYE after being amused by surfer bros overusing the word "gnarly" — she didn't even know what it meant at first, just loved how it could swing between good and bad depending on context. Despite polarizing fans when it dropped in April 2025, the track hit the Hot 100 and UK charts on the strength of its quaking 808s and gritty rave synths. You gave it one spin that November and moved on.
