Claude says:Joy Division formed in Salford after Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook caught the Sex Pistols at the Free Trade Hall in '76, then built a stark, atmospheric post-punk sound that shaped everything that came after — until Ian Curtis's death in 1980 cut them short. This single, released that year, became their biggest hit: Curtis's aching vocal over a tense, circling bassline and drum machine, every line about distance and damage. You've played it twice since 2021, enough to recognize the song everyone knows but not enough to make it yours.
