Claude says:White wrote this one in a Nashville apartment trying to compose in total silence — thinking melodies instead of playing them, chasing a Michael Jackson approach on a reel-to-reel he'd owned since he was fourteen. The result topped the Billboard 200 but earned mixed marks for its unorthodox production, praised for ambition but knocked for inconsistency. You grabbed it in early 2021 and worked through the whole thing in a month — the art-rock experiments, the groove detours, the weirder reaches — then never went back.
