Claude says:Glass Animals turned "Heat Waves" into a slow-burn phenomenon — released in summer 2020, it took 59 weeks to climb to number one on the Hot 100 and became the longest-charting song in Billboard history at 91 weeks. The track came together fast: David Bayley wrote the lyrics in an hour after a friend's death, built it around a guitar riff he'd captured on his phone, and used a pitched-down vocal sample as the bassline. You caught it once in late 2022, right as it was finishing its marathon run.
