Claude says:Explosions in the Sky recorded this in a Midland, Texas basement over three days with John Congleton, the Austin band scraping by on day jobs between albums. "Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean" took its title from the Kursk submarine disaster — the band calls it the album's darkest moment — and the whole thing runs five instrumental tracks without a word sung. You had a few stray spins in 2006 that went nowhere, then it caught on in early 2007 and you played it heavily through 2009 before taking a long break and picking it back up sporadically in recent years.
