Claude says:Dave Matthews Band returned to producer Steve Lillywhite for the first time since Before These Crowded Streets, tracking this eighth record at Seattle's Studio Litho with a live-to-tape urgency — first or second takes made the final cut. The reunion paid off: it hit number one and drew praise for its genre-hopping interplay, with a youth chorus lifting "Gaucho" and Tower of Power's Roger Smith adding Hammond organ to "If Only."
