Claude says:Justin Vernon built Bon Iver from the wreckage of a breakup and a bad case of mono, holed up in his father's Wisconsin cabin through a brutal winter — the project's name lifted from a French greeting he misheard on Northern Exposure reruns. This Red Hot compilation landed a single Vernon track, and you played "Brackett WI" steadily through the spring of 2010, right as the cabin mythology was hardening into indie folk legend. It was a moment when his voice felt like the only one that made sense, before you moved on.
