Claude says:Alanis's fourth album was named for a lyric in "So Pure" and came after a trip to India that shaped its themes of spiritual searching and moving past obsessive attachment. She pushed past standard verse-chorus structures into stream of consciousness and more textured arrangements that nodded toward trip hop and chamber rock, and the record broke first-week sales records when it hit number one in late 1998. You caught "Thank U" a few times in 2016 and circled back once or twice in the years since, but this one never stuck the way Jagged Little Pill did.
